MY MIXED REALITY LAB
INTRODUCTION
Developing effective Mixed Reality applications presupposes that some basic hardare is available. In this section is presented hardware which has been used in the research conducted the last three years.
I have to mention that when I started my research, I had no hardware at all - apart from my PC. My equipment becomes larger and larger as time passes by, depending on what my interests are. Most of the hardware has been bought for the applications I had to develop for my Diploma Thesis in July 2007.
A BASIC MIXED REALITY LAB
A basic Mixed Reality and Virtual Reality lab - like mine - should have (except for standard input devices such as keyboard, mouse and basic output devices such as monitor, speakers) at least:
a Head Mounted Display for viewing the virtual space
a wired glove for interacting, in ways that we determine while designing the VR space, with virtual objects
a (stereo) headphone for hearing the virtual space
a motion-capture device for defining our position in the virtual space
These devices, naturally, can be from quite expensive to quite affordable - especially nowadays. It is characteristic that a few years ago, such devices could be found only in universities, research centers e.t.c. However, nowadays many of them can be bought even for video gaming purposes.
