ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN

MIXED REALITY SPACES

« Each of us today possesses two bodies: the primitive body that a human being always possessed and the virtual body that has come into being with the spread of the media. The former seeks the beautiful light and fresh breeze found in nature. The other body which responds to the electronic environment, might be called a media-liked body in search of information. The relationship between these two bodies is constantly shifting. We connect to architecture and the city through both of them. Architects must assist in their re-integration buildings and cities must provide for both the virtual body and the primitive one »

In my Diploma Thesis I deal with the architectural design of a Mixed Reality museum.

Here I include some posters of my work that constitute a synopsis of the ideas I propose and the issues I confronted in my work. Note that although this material should mostly appear to be of architectural interest, I consider that there are also some other fields could use these thought, for instance 3D graphics, topology, theater, psychology.

MIXED REALITY SPACE WITH SPATIAL BOUNDARIES

This is a Virtual Reality application with which I try to communicate the theory I developed in my Thesis, concerning Mixed Reality spaces. You may experience this application before reading the following synopsis. Afterwards, you could experience the other Virtual Application I have prepared, which can be found after these 4 pictures.

In this first application, we assume that the static space (the red and green elements) are physical. All the others that appear and disappear when we move in it are virtual.

This is the synopsis of my Thesis.

MIXED REALITY SPACE WITH COLORED SPATIAL BOUNDARIES

In this application I have just painted the spatial boundaries I have used to design the events we trigger as we move in the space. You can now compare your experience in a Mixed Reality world with one in which you know that you are about to provoke its development.

Pictures of the Mixed Reality architectural model I developed for my experiences.

The physical architectural model I developed for my MR experiments.
The virtual ship placed in the physical model.
The virtual ship with a virtual fragment of the Antikythera Mechanism.
Virtual visitors moving in the physical model. A virtual inscription in greek saying "integration of virtual visitors into the MR museum".
Here we notice how the virtual elements reach out of the limits of thw phusical model.
The virtual Antikythera Mechanism I developed for my experiments. In this picture, I hold it in my hands.
